What to expect ?

1

Prepare & Explore

We start with simple preparatory movements to warm up the body and explore the exercises to come. You have time to understand each movement and notice how your body responds.

2

Build Strength

From there, we move into a varied sequence of Mat exercises using your own body weight to build strength and support better posture. Expect fewer repetitions, performed with attention and purpose rather than rushing through a long set.

3

Move with Precision

The focus is on how and where you move — your alignment, coordination and control. Small adjustments can completely change how an exercise feels and where you feel the work.

4

Adapt & Progress

Not every exercise looks the same for every body. We use variations when needed and add challenge when you are ready, so you can work at a level that feels right for you.

5

Breathe & Integrate

Breath is used to support movement, improve efficiency and manage effort, while helping you stay connected to what you are doing.

6

Restore & Reset

We finish by slowing things down with gentle movement and stretching, giving the body time to release after the work and leaving you feeling more open, balanced and refreshed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know

Answers to the most common questions about Mat Pilates and what to expect during your first session.

Is Mat Pilates suitable for beginners?
Yes. Our group classes are designed to be accessible to different levels. Exercises can be adapted or progressed so you can work at a level that feels right for you.
Do I need to be fit or flexible to start Pilates?
Not at all. You don’t need a particular level of strength or flexibility to begin. Pilates is about developing these qualities progressively through controlled, purposeful movement.
What is the difference between Mat and Reformer Pilates?
Mat Pilates uses your own body weight as the main source of resistance, while Reformer Pilates uses a specialised apparatus with springs, a moving carriage and straps to provide both resistance and support. Both share the same focus on quality of movement, strength, control and body awareness.
Should I choose Mat or Reformer Pilates?
Both are great places to start. Mat Pilates builds a strong foundation using your own body, while the Reformer offers additional resistance and support and allows for a wider variety of exercises. You can also combine both practices.
What should I bring to a Mat Pilates class?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Mats and the equipment needed for the class are provided at the studio.
What if I need more individual attention?
Our regular Mat Pilates sessions are group classes. If you would like a practice tailored more specifically to your needs, goals or movement experience, contact us to arrange a private Pilates session.
